The Art of Living Someday Today

Recently we cashed in a few hotel points and stayed at our local Marriott at HARBORCENTER in Buffalo. The hotel is connected to the Key Bank Center, home of the Buffalo Sabres. We had Saturday afternoon tickets and decided to take advantage of the parking and proximity. We parked our car in the ramp for the duration and used our feet or public transportation to get where we needed to go. The hotel lobby is on the 7th floor with hockey rinks, ramp parking and a restaurant below. Best of all, on the ground level near the valet parking entrance sits a Tim Hortons Cafe and Bake Shop, “Buffalo Coffee Crack”.

Our evening began with cocktails on Panorama on Seven, a lovely lobby bar with a fun drink menu. Here is a view of skating at Canalside from the window. I had “The French Connection” which was a hand shaken combo of pisco, lime, simple, egg white and espelette (a mild pepper) poured into an old fashioned champagne glass.

Next we hopped onto the Metro Rail to ride to the Hyatt Hotel and dine with friends at EB Greens. It’s pretty great that my favorite steakhouse is 30 miles from my house. Everything is top shelf including the sauces that accompany the steak. The crème brûlée is heaven and the bag of monkey bread to take home went well with our nightcap.

In the morning we grabbed the train again, with our Timmy Ho’s coffee in hand and rode up to North Buffalo for breakfast. Lake Effect Diner, the fully restored 1952 dining car serves up home made everything. I am a big eggs benedict fan and the hollandaise sauce was so good I wanted to eat it with a spoon…no…wait…I did eat it with a spoon. Our seats at the counter allowed us to watch the experts at work. This is a great spot and it’s worth the wait. Speaking of lake effect, check out the view from our room of a lake effect squal line off of Lake Erie. These storms are no joke but cool looking from afar.

We enjoyed a Sabres afternoon victory and had the convenience of simply walking over to the hotel and getting our car from the valet. Another Staycation in the books.
